The Deep Sea To Be Discovered” by ZHOU Huaiyang Sharing Experience with Jiaolong in SCS

On November 28, 2013, Prof. Zhou Huaiyang from the School of Ocean and Earth Science who had the honor to be the first scientist carried down into the deep water of the South China Sea by Jiaolong manned submersible, gave a wonderful speech to more than 200 students from various departments of the University. The presentation, titling “The Deep Sea To Be Discovered”, shared Prof. Zhou’s incredible and unforgettable moments with pictures and videos he took in the cold seep areas, as well as the infrastructure of Jiaolong. Zhou also introduced to these young students basic information concerning marine and geoscience studies and the equipments and methods used, and the important role that the ocean plays to the whole ecological system, and the missions and responsibilities geoscientists shoulder as well.
